Richland County takes step towards indoor vaping ban
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - Richland County is moving forward to include vaping and electronic smoking devices in its existing indoor smoking ban.
The motion was first made at a March County Council meeting, directing the county administrator to review and update Section 18.6 of the county code, which regulates the smoking of tobacco products. The proposed changes were made to include vaping and electronic smoking products, along with other regulations related to smoking and vaping.
The proposal, driven by concerns over health risks like asthma in children and breast cancer in younger women, would prohibit vaping in most indoor workplaces and within 15 feet of business entrances.
If the ordinance is enacted, people caught vaping in restricted areas could face a $25 fine for each infraction.
The first reading passed on Tuesday, and it will have to go through two more to be finalized.
