Fire Prevention Parade to be held in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Columbia firefighters are bringing a home safety message to the community today with a parade and block party near downtown.

The Fire Prevention Parade starts at 11 a.m. today and will travel from W.A. Perry Middle School along Barhamville Road to the Charles R. Drew Wellness Center at 2101 Walker Solomon Way. Drivers should plan for delays along the route.

After the parade, the Drew Wellness Center will host a community block party with free food, games, and fire safety information.

Firefighters say this year’s focus is on safe charging habits to reduce lithium-ion battery fire risks, as part of National Fire Prevention Week efforts to encourage year-round fire safety.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive before the 11 a.m. start.
