COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - This week’s night sky will set the stage for its two brightest planets to perform a cosmic kiss. Venus and Jupiter are moving closer together and will appear at their closest — called a conjunction — on Monday and Tuesday, June 8 and 9.

To catch the duo during conjunction, look towards the western sky after the sun dips below the horizon Monday or Tuesday evening. No telescope is needed.

The two planets will appear incredibly close to one another in the night sky. To put that in perspective, if you hold your pinky finger at arm’s length, it will easily fit between them.

After the conjunction, Venus will continue moving higher in the western sky over the coming weeks, while Jupiter eventually disappears into the sunset glare by early July.
