SC woman accused of using plastic bag to dump stillborn baby

A South Carolina woman is behind bars after she allegedly gave birth to a stillborn baby last month and then disposed of the remains in a dumpster.

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WIS/WMBF) - A South Carolina woman is behind bars after she allegedly gave birth to a stillborn baby last month and then disposed of the remains in a dumpster.

WMBF reported that the Florence County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Byresha Williams on Thursday and charged her with desecration of human remains.

According to the sheriff’s office, Williams gave birth to a stillborn baby between June 17 and 18 and then put the remains in a plastic bag. She then allegedly disposed of them in a dumpster at a hotel on West Palmetto Street near I-95 in the Florence area.

Desecration of human remains is a felony that carries a sentence of one to 10 years in prison.

Deputies booked Williams at the Florence County Detention Center. She is waiting for her bond hearing.
