COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - During Stroke Awareness Month, Dr. Frank O. Pusey Jr., a Neurohospitalist at Lexington Medical Center, is sharing a simple tool that could help save a life: the acronym B.E. F.A.S.T.

It’s designed to help you quickly recognize the signs of a stroke—whether it’s happening to a loved one, someone in your community, or even yourself:

B – Balance: Is there a sudden loss of balance?

E – Eyes: Is vision suddenly blurred or doubled?

F – Face: Ask the person to smile. Is one side drooping?

A – Arms: Is there weakness or numbness in one or both arms?

S – Speech: Is speech slurred, confused, or hard to understand?

T – Time: If you notice any of these signs, it’s time to call 911 immediately.
