COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - From too much screentime to UV exposure, our eyes take a lot of strain everyday. Learn simple ways to keep them healthy and sharp.

WIS’ Abigail Whittington sits down with Dr. Monique Courtenay-Brown, the first female lack ophthalmologist in the state of South Carolina. Our eyes are extremely important, they are irreplaceable, they are the way we see the world. If something happens to your eyes, it isn’t always an easy fix, so prevention is key.

Eye care starts with general health, taking care of your body by working out and eating healthily. When you are in the sun, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV rays.

Eyes can also feel strained or dry from excess screen time, so Dr. Courtenay-Brown recommends the “20/20 rule.” After 20 minutes of intense screen time, take 20 seconds to focus on something other than a digital screen to let your eyes relax and rehydrate.
