COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina GOP Chair Drew McKissick is resigning from his position as Co-Chair of the Republican National Convention, according to a press release from the RNC. McKissick will resign with RNC chair Ronna McDaniel during the organization’s “Spring Training” on March 8 in Houston.

“I’m honored to have had the privilege to serve as RNC Co-Chair for this past year, as well as to have worked with so many grassroots leaders to help make our party successful. It’s what drives me,” McKissick said in a statement Monday.

“I look forward to working with the RNC and President Trump’s team to make sure that we WIN this November by taking back the White House, the Senate and maintaining our majority in the House of Representatives. “My pledge is to do anything that I can to work together and make that a reality.”

The news of McKissick’s resignation comes after news RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced that she was stepping down from her position.

“I have decided to step aside at our Spring Training on March 8 in Houston to allow our nominee to select a Chair of their choosing. The RNC has historically undergone change once we have a nominee and it has always been my intention to honor that tradition. I remain committed to winning back the White House and electing Republicans up and down the ballot in November.”

While the Republican nominee has not yet been decided, Donald Trump, the forerunner, stated earlier this month his endorsement for North Carolina GOP leader Michael Whatley as the new RNC Chair.

“I think my friend Michael Whatley should be the RNC’s next leader,” Trump said in a statement, adding that he “has been with me from the beginning, has done a great job in his home state of North Carolina.”
