Police: Child finds grenade in Forest Acres backyard
FOREST ACRES, S.C. (WIS) - A young child found a grenade Tuesday buried in their backyard inside a concrete block.
The Forest Acres Police Department said they received a 911 call and were dispatched to the 2000 block of Dalloz Road after 5 p.m.
When bomb squad arrived, they determined the “grenade was a training weapon and was not live.”
Officials said the sheriff’s department took the grenade and it was destroyed.
It’s unclear exactly how long the grenade has been on Dalloz Road in Forest Acres or how it got there.
“We thank Richland County Sheriff’s Department, and particularly their bomb squad, for their fast response and work to ensure this neighborhood and family were kept safe,” said Forest Acres Police Chief Don Robinson.
