KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Kershaw County rivals Camden High School and Lugoff-Elgin High School kicked off their annual United Way campaign Monday ahead of Friday's rivalry football game.

Last year, the two schools raised a combined record $65,000.

"We like the competition and all, but the most important thing about it is the charity aspect. The United Way is a huge charity in the community, and it provides a lot of direct aid to people who really need it. So that's the biggest accomplishment is raising so much money for a good cause," said Lugoff-Elgin student body president Tripp Keefe.

Both schools have a full week of activities planned in an attempt to trump last year's total.

LEHS will receive a portion of sales from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lugoff's Sonic Monday, Zaxby's Tuesday and Chic-fil-A Wednesday.

CHS will benefit from sales from 5 to 8 p.m. at Zaxby's Monday, Chic-fil-A Tuesday and Sonic in Camden Wednesday. Anyone wanting to donate should
tell their server.

Thursday, LEHS will host a Dog Roast-Meet the Demons from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $5.

Camden will host a Back to School Bash and concert featuring Nashville songwriter and CHS grad Patrick Davis Thursday at Zemp Stadium. Gates open at 5:30 and the concert begins at 6:30. Advance tickets are available from the front office at CHS or online at for $10 a person or $20 for a family of four.

The total amount raised by both schools will be announced during halftime at the August 21st football game at Camden.
