BLB Homes is where craftsmanship meets care, and houses become stories worth living in.
Founded in 2008 by husband-and-wife team Byron and Kim Lawson, this family-run construction company has been quietly shaping homes across Columbia, South Carolina and throughout the Midlands for more than a decade. What began as a shared vision has grown into a trusted name for homeowners who want more than renovation. They want transformation.
Byron Lawson, a licensed General Contractor, brings the structural expertise, precision, and experience that every successful project depends on. Kim Lawson, serving as the Design Coordinator, brings the creative vision that turns ideas into beautiful, functional living spaces. Together, they guide clients from the earliest design concepts to the finished product, offering a seamless process that blends planning, design, and construction under one roof.
BLB Homes specializes in full home remodels and additions, helping families reimagine the homes they already love. Whether expanding a kitchen, adding living space, or transforming an entire home, their work reflects attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of how families truly live in their spaces.
One of their current projects in West Columbia is a perfect example of that philosophy in action. The home is undergoing a full remodel that will transform it from a modest three-bedroom, one-bath house into a spacious four-bedroom, three-bath home. The renovation also includes the addition of a new master suite, a huge covered porch, and a two-car garage, significantly expanding the home’s functionality and comfort.
As often happens with older homes, the real story began once demolition started. The team quickly discovered that the front wall of the home had extensive rot and needed to be completely reframed. Further inspection revealed that the roof framing was not built to code. Because the entire house was already being remodeled, the homeowners decided it was best to correct the issue and reframe the roof properly.
While these repairs added unexpected costs to the project, the homeowners saw it as an investment in the long-term safety and quality of their home. This is a house they plan to live in for many years, and doing the work correctly now ensures the home will stand strong well into the future.
With several walls being opened up and reframed during the renovation, the homeowners also chose to make a few upgrades to improve everyday comfort. Instead of standard five-foot tubs, they opted for six-foot tubs in the bathrooms. The larger tubs require additional space and come at a higher cost, so they are not always an option for every home or budget, but in this case the layout allowed for the upgrade.
The new master bathroom will also feature a curbless shower, an increasingly popular design that supports aging in place while also giving the bathroom a clean, modern look. The shower includes a sleek linear drain and an impressively large niche designed to hold everyday bath essentials without clutter.
Projects like this showcase what BLB Homes does best: combining thoughtful design, solid construction, and a willingness to address challenges head-on. By focusing on quality behind the walls as much as the finishes that homeowners see every day, they help ensure that each home is built to last.
As a family-operated business, BLB Homes approaches every project with personal investment and pride. Their clients are not simply customers. They become part of the extended BLB family. With roots in Columbia and projects throughout the Midlands, BLB Homes continues to build more than houses. They build spaces where life unfolds.
