FIRST ALERT: Increasing rain chances & cooler temperatures are ahead this weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - An incoming cold front will bring a better chance of showers, a few thunderstorms, and cooler weather to the Midlands this weekend.

Scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder will be possible at times, especially in the morning and afternoon. An isolated gusty storm cannot completely be ruled out in our far southernmost areas with the passage of the front.

We’ll have a chance of occasional showers through Saturday night into early Sunday morning before clearing out to the east.

In the wake of the front, clouds will exit as cooler air settles in across the Midlands. High temperatures Sunday afternoon will peak just below normal in the middle to upper 50s. Windy conditions are also likely behind the front with gusts near and over 30 MPH.

The cooler weather will stick around into the start of next week. In fact, low temperatures are forecast to fall back below freezing heading into both Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny. Highs near 50-degrees.
