LEE COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - Lee County Sheriff Daniel Simon provided new details about a deadly shooting at a local truck stop over the weekend.

The sheriff’s office said 34-year-old Derrick Scott, Sr., of Little River, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful conduct toward a child.

The sheriff also identified the victim as 34-year-old Porsha Daneille Ivey.

Simon told WIS on Wednesday that the Ivey’s three children, between the ages of 4 and 9, were among those who witnessed the shooting late Sunday at the Pilot truck stop on Sumter Highway.

“We’ve got a witness who was at the gas pump pumping gas, saying the kids got out of the vehicle...saying ‘You shot mommy,’” the sheriff said.

Simon also said Scott and Ivey were in a relationship and lived in Little River, but were coming from Richland County after visiting a relative. The sheriff added that, at some point, it’s believed the two got into an argument and got off at an exit, where the argument continued to escalate before Scott allegedly shot Ivey.

Simon added that the sheriff’s office has contacted the South Carolina Department of Social Services to determine what happens with the children.

As of Wednesday, records show Scott is being held at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center after his bond was denied.
