Fairfield Co. man accused of dragging dog behind vehicle

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office says it arrested a man accused of dragging a dog behind a vehicle in December.

Billy Ray Huskey, 48, of Mitford is charged with ill treatment to animals. He was arrested Friday.

Deputies started the investigation after a badly injured dog was found on Camp Welfare Road near Carolina Adventure World on December 13. The dog was taken to a veterinarian, who determined the dog was injured by being dragged behind a vehicle.

The dog, Emmanuelle, needed surgery for his injuries.

Investigators and the county Animal Control Hoof and Paw organization distributed fliers to try to find witnesses. The Sheriff's Department says several witnesses identified Huskey, who is believed to be responsible for the dog's injuries.
