Weather system could bring wintry mix of precipitation

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A storm headed to the Midlands early Tuesday morning could bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the area, especially north and west of Columbia.
First Alert Chief Meteorologist John Farley says to get ready for a good soaking starting late tonight and continuing into Wednesday morning.
Some locations could see a wintry mix on the front and back end of the system.
Farley says the rain will start early Tuesday morning between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.
"At that time, we could have enough cold air in place for a few hours of sleet before it all changes over to rain," said Farley. "Don't expect any significant accumulations, but in counties like Newberry, Union, Laurens, Fairfield, Chester (and to the north and west), there could be a brief time of slick roads around dawn. But as the storm moves in, the air will warm and it'll quickly turn to all rain."
Farley says most of Tuesday will be cold and wet. "Expect rain, heavy at times, for all of us throughout Tuesday," said Farley. "By Tuesday night, the rain will turn more showery, but it won't finally wind down until about midday Wednesday."
"At that time some colder air will wrap in from the northwest and again there could be a brief wintry mix," said Farley. "But don't expect any accumulation. The clouds will quickly give way to sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 40s."
For those wishing for some of the white stuff, it's likely we won't see any snow like we did back on November 12, though.
