Robbery suspect apprehended after escaping arrest

NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A suspect being sought for robbing a 73-year-old man while he was pumping gas Wednesday morning has been apprehended.
Deputies say Christopher Walton David, 43, of Chapin was located Thursday afternoon hiding in a thick underbrush on Meadowlark Road. He was taken into custody without incident. The search lasted approximately an hour and a half and the suspect had covered more than a mile.
Earlier in the day, investigators received information that David was in the area and attempted to arrest him, but he was able to break free and run into the woods near Lazy Brook Road, deputies said.
Officers from the Newberry County Sheriff's Office, Lexington County Sheriff's Office, Chapin Police Department, and State Law Enforcement Division all responded to the scene with a search using bloodhounds and the SLED helicopter.
David was arrested for strong armed robbery on an existing warrant. He will also be charged with assault and battery on a police officer while resisting arrest. The officer was not injured during the incident.
Deputies say David robbed the victim Wednesday morning at the Quick Food Mart in Pomaria.
