DHEC: Pool of water in landfill the cause of strange odor

Posted: Updated:
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A pool of water that formed in a nearby landfill caused an odor that had many residents in the Red Bank area worried, according to the Department of Health and Environmental Control.

According to DHEC spokesman Jim Beasley, the pool of water formed due to moisture leaking through and pooling together on South Lake Drive.

DHEC officials are bringing in clay matter to cap off the pool and hopefully defeat the odor.

DHEC expects the pool of water to be covered by the end of Thursday. Officials will return on Friday to take additional samples.

The Lexington Fire Department originally responded to the call.
