ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) -

Approximately 200 people are losing their jobs as a global manufacturer closes its plant in Orangeburg.

Federal-Mogul is consolidating its Orangeburg operations to larger facilities in Tennessee and Mexico.

As a result, the company is laying off about 160 full-time employees and 40 contract employees, according to a company spokesperson.

Employees were notified Monday morning.

The Orangeburg operations will move to a plant in Smithville, Tennessee and a plant in Mexico. There are no plans to move any employees to either of those plants.

The consolidation has already started and is expected to take a about two years. The layoffs will not all take place at the same time.

According to the company's website, Federal-Mogul supplies equipment to automotive manufacturers across the world.

The company says the decision to close the plant was difficult but necessary to consolidate in order to compete in the global market.
