CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Rescue crews are searching near Charleston for a missing swimmer as Tropical Storm Beryl approaches.
Officials said surf at Folly Beach was so heavy that rescue crews had to use jet skis instead of boats to search for the man who went missing Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say lifeguards tried to reach the man, but he did not resurface.
A red flag warning has been in effect for Folly Beach all day. That means that swimmers are warned not to go into the water above knee-depth.
Tropical storm warnings were in effect for the entire Georgia coastline and parts of Florida and South Carolina. Once Beryl comes ashore, it was expected to continue dumping rain over parts of Florida and Georgia on Monday before slowly moving back out to sea.
