(Columbia-AP) Sept. 12, 2002 - Richland County officials say a man found dead in the Broad River earlier this week had been strangled.

The body of Angelo Ricardo Timmons, 45, of Columbia, was found Tuesday afternoon. On Thursday, three teens face charges for the murder of Timmons. Maurice Kelley, 19, and his cousings Tyrone Kelley and Myron Kelley, both 16, are all charged with the murder.

Chief Charles Austin says Timmons went to Maurice Kelley's Columbia home on Saturday to do repair work. Austin says the teenagers knocked Timmons to the ground, placed a plastic bag around his head and tied a cord around his neck.

Austin says the teens dumped Timmons into water, then stole his car. All three are being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County and could face additional charges.

Two fishermen found the body near Schumpert's Lumber. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says Timmons died from asphyxiation.
