(Charleston, W. VA-AP) March 30, 2007 - The West Virginia University Mountaineers are so proud of being the NIT champs, they didn't mind that their championship T-shirts were misspelled.
They wore the shirts anyway - even though the "Virginia" in "West Virginia" was spelled without the third letter "I" - the one that comes before the "A."
The shirts said, "West Virgina."
The players wore them anyway after last night's 78-to-73 win over Clemson.
WVU's sports information director says the shirts were printed by the NIT.
It's the first title in the NIT for West Virginia in 65 years.
