Former TV general manager accused of $200,000 fraud
(Savannah, GA-AP) December 6, 2006 - A federal grand jury Wednesday accused Mitchell M. Maund, former general manager of WJCL-TV, of defrauding the Savannah station and its parent company of more than $200,000.
US Attorney Lisa Godbey Wood says Maund was charged with 47 counts of mail fraud and one count of wire fraud. He is accused of using a corporate credit card for hundreds of personal purchases including jewelry, airline tickets and cruise tickets from March 2002 until April.
Wood said the indictment followed a joint federal and state investigation of financial irregularities at the ABC affiliate.
The station referred questions to its parent, Piedmont Television Holdings of Charlotte, North Carolina. The offices were closed Wednesday night.
