Libertarian congressional candidate denies domestic violence charge

(Greenville-AP) November 6, 2006 - The Libertarian candidate for South Carolina Congressional District Four has been charged with criminal domestic violence.

43-year-old John Macarewich Cobin of Greer was arrested Saturday. He is accused of pushing and shoving his wife and causing bruises, according to an arrest report.

Cobin told The Greenville News in a statement Sunday that he is "innocent of all charges."

Investigators say Cobin and his wife separated in July and apparently have been arguing over their 6-month-old son.

Cobin is running against incumbent Republican US Representative Bob Inglis, Democrat William Griffith and Green Party candidate C. Faye Walters in Tuesday's election.
