Private, home school teacher in GA arrested on molestation charge

(Mcdonough, GA-AP) August 24, 2006 - A science teacher at a private school in McDonough who founded a home school program has been arrested on a child molestation charge.

Nolan Maddox, 51, is accused of molesting a girl from 1997 to 2001.

Henry County Police Lieutenant Jason Bolton says the girl was six to 12 years old during that time and was never one of Maddox's students.

Maddox teaches at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy and directed weeklong summer science camps called "Passport to Adventure."

Maddox was nominated to be a STAR teacher for Henry County in 2003.

Maddox also organized summer trips to Florida where high school students rafted, scuba dived and studied marine life.

In 1994, Maddox - who was a teacher at Landmark Christian School at the time - founded New Creation Center for Independent Study in McDonough. The faith-based, nonprofit organization is designed to offer programs and classes for home schooled students. The center's Web site says more than 225 students are enrolled.

Maddox will be held in the Henry County Jail until his first appearance Friday in Henry County Magistrate Court.
