Simpsonville woman sentenced for embezzlement

(Greenville-AP) July 18, 2006 - A Simpsonville woman has been sentenced to six years in prison for taking nearly $540,000 from her employer.

Thirty-one-year-old Libby Jeffries pleaded guilty Monday in Greenville to breach of trust. Jeffries was also ordered to serve five years of probation after she's released from prison.

Prosecutor Sylvia Harrison says Jeffries took the money from 1998 until February of this year. Harrison says Jeffries took checks made out to TSC, The Service Company, where she worked, and deposited them in the account of TSC, Teen Spirit Council, which she had created.

Larry Sinn of The Service Company says the company's more than 50 employees have suffered. Sinn says the employees have had no bonuses since 2003 and have lost some insurance and retirement benefits.
