(WIS) - One person is dead after a head-on collision that happened on I-26 Westbound early Wednesday morning.

The accident happened around 5:18 a.m. when the driver of a Chrysler was headed eastbound on I-26 in the westbound lanes, resulting in a head-on crash with a pickup truck.

The driver of the Chrysler died, that person's identity has not yet been released.

The pickup truck driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Lanes are now back open on I-26 Westbound near Piney Grove Rd., according to Columbia Fire officials and SCDOT.

There was also an overturned semi truck near mile marker 105 as a result of the head-on collision.

SCHP Trooper David Jones says when the first wreck happened, traffic came to a sudden stop and the semi driver swerved to avoid hitting more cars.

The semi-truck hit a ditch and overturned. That driver was not injured.
