'WE ARE COMING TO GET YOU:' Water rescues, evacuations underway on NC coast as Florence nears
(WIS) - Water rescue efforts are underway in New Bern, NC as flood conditions from Hurricane Florence intensify.
There are currently 150 people awaiting rescue, according to a tweet from City of New Bern officials sent around 1:30 a.m. Friday. They have two out-of-state FEMA teams to assist.
Officials advised residents to move to higher ground while help is on the way.
WCTI meteorologists in New Bern explained to viewers that their Sinclair station was being evacuated due to Florence's storm surge.
The meteorologist finally evacuated after tossing coverage to other sister stations, according to reporter Brian Kahn's tweets.
The threat of flooding in the Carolinas is expected to increase over the next few days. Florence is expected to bring heavy rain, flooding, gusty winds and potentially isolated tornadoes to the Midlands, especially by the weekend.
