West Cola. PD: Man accused of shooting woman at ATM arrested

WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The West Columbia Police Department has made an arrest in an attempted murder and attempted armed robbery case that occurred Sept. 1 at an ATM in West Columbia.

The incident happened at an ATM in the shopping center near Big Lots on Augusta Hwy.  

Investigators have charged Lemont Michael B Smith, 27, of Santee S.C. with attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

Smith approached a female victim while she was using the ATM. He attempted to rob the victim at gunpoint. During the robbery, the victim was shot in the hand.

She was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK.

The suspect was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center, where he is currently being held and awaiting bond.
