28-year-old Gaston man identified in deadly Columbia shooting

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A 28-year-old man has been identified as the victim in a Columbia shooting.

The incident happened on South Beltline Boulevard in Columbia around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified Brandon Jamal Blanding of Gaston in the incident. He was transported from the scene by Richland County EMS to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital where he died at 9:51 p.m., according to Watts.

An autopsy indicated that Blanding died from a gunshot wound to the torso.

The Columbia Police Department is investigating the incident.
