ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A camper who had been reported missing from Santee State Park has been found safe.
Orangeburg County officials say the unidentified 45-year-old woman spent the night in a large wooded area near Lake Marion.
Her family reported her missing around 6:30 yesterday evening after she walked into a wooded area near their Lake Shore area campsite and never returned.
Orangeburg County Sheriff's deputies were called in around 11:30 p.m. when the State Park rangers had no success in finding her.
OCSO personnel contacted the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), Orangeburg County Emergency Services, the state Department of Natural resources to join the rangers in the search.
K-9 units were also deployed, as well as a helicopter from SLED, which searched for the woman the majority of early Sunday morning.
As the OCSO was about to deploy a large number of searchers into the woods the woman was found this near Ballard's Point.
"We are extremely pleased this lady has been returned to her family after having spent a night in a large wooded area near Lake Marion," said Sheriff Leroy Ravenell. "This was a long night of worry and concern. But not nearly as long as for this young lady. We're just glad she's been found."
