1 killed, 1 injured after truck crashes into tree in Aiken Co.

AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The driver of a truck was killed and a passenger was injured following a single vehicle collision in Aiken County.

The collision happened at the intersection of SC 302 and Storm Branch Road around 7 a.m. Saturday.

According to Lance Corporal David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of a Ford F-150 was traveling on Storm Branch Road, came upon the intersection at SC 302, crossed over SC 302, and struck a tree.

The driver, Daniel J. Lewallen, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, Lewallen's son, was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition. His full name and status are unknown at this time.

According to officials, Lewallen and his son were going hunting early this morning. Neither he nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts, Jones said.

A toxicology report is pending and collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
