COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The South Carolina Gamecocks will open the 2018 season at home against Coastal Carolina on Saturday, marking the continuation of a cherished tradition for some, and the beginning for others.

"I'm very excited, I'm from New York and being down is super different, I've never been to an SEC game so I'm really excited to experience the whole atmosphere," Stephanie Munnick, a freshman at USC said.

Many fans see Saturday's game as a chance for the Gamecocks offense to iron out any issues ahead of next Saturday's showdown against Georgia.

"I think it's a good stepping stone before we get to Georgia next week to kind of let the offense loose a little bit and see what they've got this year with Bentley coming back and Deebo (Samuel) coming back so I'm pretty excited for tomorrow," Aaron Greenberg, a USC junior said.

The Gamecocks finished last season with a 9-4 record overall record and placed second in the SEC East.

For some fans like Kennedy Caskey, Saturday's game will be the first time seeing a game inside Williams Brice Stadium.

"I'm super excited about going to my first game tomorrow," she said. "I'm excited about tailgating and to see the football players and hopefully we're going to win, actually I think we're going to win and I'm excited about the atmosphere."

It's an atmosphere second to none according to USC junior Mike Casey.

"Just the entire vibe in the stadium is incredible, Casey said. "Williams Brice, especially once when they got sandstorm going, the towels are flying everywhere and it's an experience unlike any other."

Casey said with most of the offensive starters returning and wide receiver Deebo Samuel healthy after being injured last season, the Gamecocks have a shot at the SEC East title this season.

"As long as we stay healthy, we have a good group of guys and a good team," he said. "If we do suffer injuries, my worry is our depth."

The university is instituting a new clear bag policy this season, warning fans any un-approved bag will not be allowed to be taken into the stadium. For more on the new rule as well as transit options on game day, click here.
