COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The group, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, also known as M.A.D.D., is talking about a new report on DUI convictions around our state.

They held a news conference this morning at the Richland County courthouse highlighting data covering misdemeanor DUI cases in 2016 and 2017 - including Richland and Kershaw counties.

The report includes recommendations for judges, the legislature, prosecutors, and officers in order to reduce the unnecessary barriers to DUI convictions in South Carolina.

The 331 drunk driving deaths reported on our state's roads in 2016 was the 6th highest in the nation. In all, 33 percent of South Carolina fatalities were caused by drunk driving in 2016 - 11th highest in the nation.
