COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Books, books and more books. The Cooperative Ministry's annual Book Festival is Saturday, Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Washington Street United Methodist Church. Proceeds will benefit The Cooperative Ministry's services to the working poor.
Scott Vaughan is the Director of Development and Communications for The Cooperative Ministry. And David Hodges is a Board Member and Book Festival Chairman. They say one in two families in the Midlands falls near or below the poverty line.
The Cooperative Ministry provides emergency assistance to those in crisis, providing direct assistance, counseling, guidance, and prayer.
With the support of generous congregations, individuals and companies in the community, Vaughan says they desire to honor God by reflecting divine compassion for those less fortunate - working hard to lift the Midlands' working poor out of crisis and poverty.
This weekend's book festival will offer books in several categories, including collectibles and books about South Carolina. Washington Street United Methodist Church is at 1401 Washington Street in downtown Columbia.
