BLYTHEWOOD, SC (WIS) - Cam Smith had a lot of different layers he had to uncover Friday night.

Following the Redhawks' 53-14 win over Lugoff-Elgin, Smith kept his fans and teammates in suspense as the senior defensive back would reveal the school he committed to following the season opener.

First, he showed off a Tennessee shirt. Then, he peeled off the Vol orange tee and revealed a Georgia shirt, but there was one shirt left. After removing the black Bulldogs shirt, the Westwood star showed off a South Carolina Gamecocks tee while displaying the popular "Spurs Up" hand signal.

"It's my home school I've been loving it since I was little," Smith told the media after the big reveal. "Why not when I have the opportunity?"

Smith wasn't the only person who was happy with the decision. After making the decision official, Smith was mobbed by his teammates as they smiled and cheered sharing the moment with him. Now, Smith hopes he can help the Gamecocks continue their winning ways once he arrives on campus.

"They're getting one that's very confident," said Westwood head coach Dustin Curtis. "They're getting a very athletic player that can help you in a lot of ways. I think, with his body type, he likes to hit, too."

The commitment was one that Smith admitted was hectic, but his mother says she's glad it's finally over.

"Every obstacle, every hurdle, and everything we've been through," Alicia Smith said, "it's been absolutely worth it."

Smith and his Westwood teammates now set their sights on picking up their second win against rival Blythewood.
