NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Two women in Newberry County are facing multiple drug charges after they were found in possession of cocaine and marijuana by a deputy on patrol.

Carla Fulmer Shealy, 39, of Whitmire is charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of marijuana. Brenda Lee Edgins, 38, is charged with Trafficking Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The women were found by a Newberry deputy near a convenience store on SC Highway 121 at Interstate 26 just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The deputy was patrolling the area when he found the women sitting in a suspicious parked car. Because of previous issues in the area, the deputy investigated and searched the car.

A large quantity of cocaine (about 15 grams), a small amount of marijuana, and a glass pipe with burned residue commonly associated with drug use were found in the car.

"This is an outstanding example of knowing the community and current crime trends and applying good police work to that knowledge," said Sheriff Foster. "I commend the deputies involved in this case for their outstanding work in removing a large amount of drugs from our community."

Bond for both of the women was set at $100,000.
