Crews control store fire in West Columbia, part of road remains closed

Road closed due to fire in West Columbia

WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Crews battled a fire in West Columbia which forced officials to close a roadway Tuesday afternoon.

According to West Columbia Fire Public Information Officer Marquis Solomon, the department received a call about the fire around 5 p.m.

Upon arriving, crews discovered fire and smoke coming from the "Let's Plunder" thrift store. The West Columbia Police Department arrived and blocked the intersection of Meeting Street and 12th Street as crews battled the flames.

Crews from Irmo, Lexington, West Columbia, Cayce, and the City of Columbia were on hand to assist.

Officials said no other structures were threatened by the fire. Also, no injuries were suffered.

Solomon said the fire was under control shortly after 6 p.m. The road is now open except the 1000 block of Charleston Highway remains closed at this time.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible. If you have to travel through that area, use caution.
