COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Come January, the Shandon community will see a new, renovated home in the neighborhood and it's all going to be done by the public's input.

The project, Flip & Give, is a twofold, charitable home renovation project developed by The Moore Company real estate firm. Consumers will help design a "house flip" through online voting.

"We love helping our clients buy and sell homes. So many of them are interested in renovating, and this will give them a chance to experience it firsthand," owner of The Moore Company Graeme Moore said. "The opportunity to help garner engagement for a great cause is something we're fired up about."

The company will transform a 1920s Shandon bungalow on Duncan Street into an updated modern cottage within 24 weeks.

There will be ten votes over the course of the renovations, where the public will be deciding on everything from the floor plan to the finishes.

The community will be able to choose the following items: master bathroom floor plan, roof color and shingle type, cabinet choices, tile selections, granite, island color, front door style and color, plumbing fixtures, lighting selections and hardwood stain. The votes will be staggered over the next several months.

Once the home is sold at the end of the project, 100% of net proceeds will be donated to local charities chosen by the public through online voting.

"We've been looking for some way to give back to the community and this sort of made sense. It's real estate, its design, it's engaging people on the flip, and at the end- it's giving the proceeds away," Moore said. "So we thought this was a great way to give back to the community that's given back to us over the last few years."

The next vote will take place Sunday, August 12, where the public can vote on the roof color. If you'd like to vote, visit the Flip and Give website here.
