Aiken coroner identifies 33-year-old in hit and run

AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The Aiken County Coroner has identified the victim of a fatal hit and run.

33-year-old Christopher Holmes was struck and killed by a vehicle at 2:33 a.m. Friday, Coroner Tim Carlton said.

The vehicle has been identified as a dark colored SUV.  Holmes was attempting to cross the road on York St., near the Crosland Park Subdivision when he was struck.

The person driving the SUV left the scene before an officer arrived, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Holmes was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing dark clothing and died from blunt force trauma.

However,  the manner of death has not been determined and is pending investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday in Newberry, SC.

This incident is being investigated by Aiken Public Safety and the Aiken County Coroner's Office.
