COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - For the ninth year, the "Jump Start Back to School" event helped get those in the community ready to learn by providing backpacks with school supplies, information, and health screenings.

The event held in the Harbison Area was put on by "First Choice by Select Health of South Carolina" as a way to try and ease the financial burden of heading back to class.

"This is really important because our mission is to help people get care and stay well and build healthy communities and by doing this and offering backpacks and school supplies, we're helping members of the community gear up to start school," Addie Bors with First Choice by Select Health of South Carolina said.

Organizers say about 800 people were a part of the event. They say other community outreach events are planned throughout the state. Click here to find out more.
