Knife-wielding man arrested for West Columbia restaurant robbery

WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - West Columbia Police have arrested a man after he stole money from a restaurant on the 2500 block of Augusta Road.
Officials said William Wingate entered the restaurant with a knife around 11 a.m. Monday. The suspect demanded money from one of the restaurant's employees. Authorities say Wingate took $300 to $500 during the incident. He was arrested about two hours later by authorities.
The 47-year-old Wingate has been charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a knife during a violent crime.
He has been transported to the Lexington County Detention Center and is currently awaiting a bond hearing.
