Inmate captured after stealing car, escaping Wateree River Correctional

(WIS) - An inmate was apprehended after stealing a car and escaping Wateree River Correctional Institution in Rembert, SC on Monday.

Brandon Williams Jones, 24, escaped from the prison around 2:18 a.m., according to South Carolina Department of Corrections. He was then apprehended by Florence County Sheriff's Department at 3:50 a.m., SCDC officials said.

According to Jeffrey Taillon with SCDC, Jones stole a vehicle during the escape from the 8,000-acre, medium security facility. The vehicle has since been recovered.

Jones had originally been convicted of grand larceny and burglary.
