ATLANTA (WIS) - Two of the Palmetto State's top college football running backs have been selected to the Doak Walker Award watch list.
South Carolina's Rico Dowdle and Clemson's Travis Etienne are among the 62 candidates on the award's preseason watch list. The list includes Kentucky's Benny Snell, 2017 Doak Award winner and Stanford running back Bryce Love, and former Dutch Fork star and current Wake Forest tailback Matt Colburn.
Dowdle, now in his junior year for the Gamecocks, recorded 251 yards and two touchdowns in eight games before being sidelined with a fractured fibula midway through the 2017 season. In two years with the Gamecocks, Dowdle has posted 1,015 yards and nine rushing touchdowns.
Etienne was instrumental in Clemson's playoff run just a year ago. The Tigers sophomore finished the year with 766 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 107 carries. Etienne finished the year tied for 10th in carries of 50 yards or better.
The three finalists for the award will be announced on November 20. The winner of the Doak Walker Award will be revealed on December 6.
