Man arrested in connection to an intentionally set fire in North Columbia
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The Columbia Police Department has arrested 54-year-old Michael McClellan for his involvement with an intentionally set fire that happened two months ago.
According to CPD, McClellan is accused of breaking into a vacant home on the 3500 block of Beaumont Avenue on May 5. McClellan set multiple fires causing nearly $20,000 in structural damage and $3,000 in damage to the contents of the home, officials said Monday.
McClellan has been charged with second-degree arson and first-degree burglary.
The Columbia Police and Fire Departments are working with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to investigate 13 other fires that happened in North Columbia dating back to April 21.
Of those fires, five of them have been ruled as being set intentionally.
