SWANSEA, SC (WIS) - We're learning more about the sudden dismissal of a Midlands high school football coach.

The lawyer for former Swansea High School football coach Greg Wright calls the reasons for his termination "false." He says Wright was fired as head coach towards the beginning of the week, but WIS has been told Wright is still an employee of the school district.

The news comes a month before the beginning of the 2018 season. The timing is unusual and the circumstances surrounding it remain unclear.

WIS has reached out to the Swansea High principal and athletics director and no one has returned our calls or messages. According to a source, Swansea's wrestling coach will serve as the interim head football coach.

Wright went 7-15 overall in two seasons as head coach of the Tigers.
