ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - "Something didn't look right and just to be sure, this person called. It was the right decision."

Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said an eagle-eyed citizen's curiosity helped them nab a suspect during a burglary in progress at a closed restaurant on North Road.

Ravenell said the citizen was passing by the old Ryan's Steakhouse around 1 a.m. Saturday and spotted someone walking around with a flashlight at the location. That citizen then called deputies, who arrived a short time later.

Deputies say they found the suspect had forced himself into the building and left power tools, spare batteries, metal sheets, and even a bin filled with copper wire outside at the point of entry.

Deputies looked through the building for the suspect but didn't find him immediately. However, the search extended outside where they say they found Bryan Marra, 41, hiding in some leaves.

When taken into custody, Marra reportedly told deputies he was taking a transformer inside the building apart to obtain the metal and copper from it in "so that he could make some money," the incident report said.

Marra has been charged with second-degree burglary, grand larceny, possession of burglary tools, malicious injury to personal property, and malicious injury to telephone or utility systems.
