COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - South Carolina men's basketball coach Frank Martin appears to be enjoying his trip to the Big Apple ahead of the Gamecocks' date to the dance with Baylor at Madison Square Garden on Friday.

Appearing on ABC's Good Morning America -- on his birthday, too -- the fifth-year head coach was also surprised with a delicious-looking birthday cake by the hosts.

Martin also appeared on The Dan Patrick Show alongside NCAA and NBA commentator Charles Barkley.

Martin told reporters following the Gamecocks' open practice that he's been able to celebrate his birthday normally since being at South Carolina. During his time at Kansas State, Martin said he was either working or his team just got beaten. On Thursday, Martin is happy to be able to celebrate his birthday with his players.

"I'm happy I'm working right now," Martin said. "I've got my wife and children here with me. My family's all flying in. Her family, obviously, is all here. I got my guys, as you can see. Everyone thinks I hit them over the head with chairs all the time and all they do is give me a hard time. They wouldn't do that if our relationship wasn't special. This is what I do. It's my birthday. I want to be happy on my birthday."

But, of course, there's work to be done.

The Gamecocks are making their first appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in the modern era after dispatching the Duke Blue Devils on Sunday night.

The Gamecocks take on Baylor at 7:29 p.m. on Friday.
