House fire victim's blog paints picture of woman in love with family, her faith

"Disasters happen all around us, each and every day."

It was a story written on Worshipful Living, Mandy Kelly's blog. The story was called "Our Response When Disaster Strikes." Although it was written in October 2015 in response to the devastating 1,000 Year Flood, it was reposted to the Worshipful Living Facebook page just hours before Mandy, her husband, and two children were killed in a fire.

The fire is a disaster on its own with two other children surviving and a grandmother sent to the Augusta Burn Center to be treated for burns.

But Mandy's blog gives us an inside look at the growing family's life before this disaster struck.

Faith appears to be a central theme in the blog, with the central tagline of the site written as "sowing seeds through daily worship."

Going deeper into her entries, we see a woman not only devoted to her faith but her family as well.

A March 2014 entry tells us about how Mandy struggled with infertility and fear that she may never find the love of her life.

"Fast-forward a bit, and then Scott enters the picture," Mandy wrote. "Widowed, with three small children. After tons of conversations and dates, we are engaged and a year later married. Instant family. I saw in one motion how God gave me the desires of my heart for a husband and children. I have felt so completely blessed."

The blessings continued for the Kelly family, who found themselves wanting to adopt a child. They opened a GoFundMe page to raise money for the adoption and raised more than $7,000.

Thirty-two updates were posted to the GoFundMe page as time went on, each one telling the story of a couple looking to love another child despite progress and setbacks.

"We have been blessed by so many who have prayed for us over the last year - and ask that you would continue to hold us in your prayers," Kelly wrote. "Our baby bag is packed, and the car seat is just longing to bring a little one home. Our heart and are arms are waiting!"

That waiting paid off, as the couple happily adopted a little boy, Judah.

Life seemed complete for the family of six.

But like Mandy wrote, disasters happen often. But one of the last lines in her passage about disasters seems prescient now.

"We can use these disaster opportunities in our lives to be a vessel of the grace, mercy, truth and love of the Gospel," Mandy wrote.
