ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Officials in Orangeburg County are investigating an animal hoarding case.
On March 3, 64 cats and four dogs were found at a home in the county. Officials say the home was in such bad shape, it had to be condemned.
The cats were surrendered to the county by the owner. The owner found homes for the dogs.
On Thursday, the Charleston Animal Society took its mobile unit to Orangeburg to test and vaccinate the cats. Three veterinarians checked the cats to determine if they could be placed in shelters and adopted.
According to For the Love of a Paw cat rescue in Santee, 10 of the cats tested positive for feline leukemia and one was FIV-positive.
In all, 20 cats were taken to area rescue groups.
So far, no charges have been filed in the case and the homeowner's name has not been released.
