Car wrecks, catches fire after high-speed chase involving deputies

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A Richland County man is behind bars after leading deputies on a high-speed chase that ended with his car, along with a deputy's car, catching fire in a collision early Saturday morning.

Deputies with the Richland County Sheriff's Department say 40-year-old Stanley Jackson is charged with failure to stop for blue lights, reckless driving, habitual offender traffic, and possession of crack cocaine.

Around 1 a.m. Saturday, Richland County deputies attempted to stop Jackson's car on Garners Ferry Road. Deputies say Jackson took off at a high rate of speed before wrecking at Crossing Hill Drive and Devine Street.

Jackson's car caught fire from a leaking gas line following the collision. The fire spread to a deputy's car, however, no major damage was reported.
