COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A friendly competition has been heating up in Columbia between the fire and police department this week.

Sunday afternoon, the teams began practicing for their softball tournament which will be October 19 at Spirit Communications Park. Both departments will raise money for breast cancer research. They'll also collect non-perishable food items for Harvest Hope Food Bank.

"It's an ongoing friendly competition. We actually just came off of our tee-shirt sales which we just blew the police department in sales and we are trying to continue that with this softball game," Benjie Leverett with the Columbia Fire Department said.

"It's good seeing the guys outside of work. A lot of us play softball anyway. So it's good competition between us and the fire department. Just to get together in the community as well. That way they see us outside of whenever we answer calls for service," Kylie Gilbert with the Columbia Police Department said.

The game is on October 19 at 7 p.m. at Spirit Communications Park. Tickets are $6.00.
